The different image registration algorithms each have their advantages (and disadvantages). For example, the Fourier methods are fast, but cannot provide the sub-pixel accuracy which slower spatial methods provide.
I suggest a fusion of different algorithms, in order to obtain robust, fast and highly accurate registration.
