Setup Bluetooth Headset

Preparation

• Detected by default under Ubuntu Hardy
• Install package bluetooth-alsa

Pairing

Method A

Use the Bluetooth icon and gui.

• Right click, browse devices, click Jabra, connect.
• Passkey is 0000.
• Error message may follow, just ignore.

Method B

• Hold phone button 10 seconds (blue light comes on)
• Use hcitool scan to get device address
• Use sudo hcitool cc DEVICE_ADDR to pair

Configure alsa

Edit /etc/asound.conf:

Test

• Run xmms
• Run headsetd
• Control-p, select ALSA
  • Configure
    • audio device: headset (type this)
    • Use software volume control
• Play a song

Setup skype

• Setup devices in skype, go.

Skype might not remember device settings, so check on startup.

Problems

- Sometimes, noise is recorded. Don't know why, yet.

/etc/init.d/alsasound restart seems to fix it.

- Sometimes the "real" sound card drivers get unloaded, so you can't

use the audio device. Modprobe the card back in, i.e. sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel and /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart.
